School Meals

As you may be aware, all children in Primary Schools are now receiving Universal free school meals. This is for all children from Reception to Year 6. Please ensure that you check the menu daily with your child and make them aware of the options and that it is suitable in regards to dietary requirements. It is important that any previous sQuid debts from before the summer holidays are cleared on the systems as soon as possible.

Universal Free School Meals
From 31st March 2025, the Free School Meal (FSM) Transitional Protection will end, and the system will revert to the old eligibility rules.

What This Means for You If your child currently receives Pupil Premium (PP) FSM, they will continue to receive it until Year 6 or Year 11, even if they become ineligible. New applications from April 2025 will not have this protection—FSM will stop if circumstances change.

Year 6 parents must reapply before their child starts secondary school in September. If you think you may be eligible, we strongly encourage you to apply before March 2025 to benefit from the current system. You can do so by using this link: www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals

What is Pupil Premium Funding?
Pupil Premium can provide parents/carers with other benefits ie: Summer Clubs, After School Care. In addition, Pupil Premium Funding from the government is given to schools to help pupils reach their full potential, regardless of their background or financial situation.
It’s provided for pupils who:
• Are registered for Free School Meals
• Have been registered for Free School Meals at any point in the last 6 years
• Are, or have been, in care
• Have parents in the armed forces

At Newtons Primary School we get extra funding for every eligible pupil who is registered for Free School Meals. This extra money could make a real difference to the quality of education we offer.

If you are entitled to certain benefits you may be entitled to free school milk.

If your child is in reception, year 1 or 2 and entitled to universal free school meals by applying for this then you can claim for free school milk for your child through the Cool Milk website link.
