Our Vision

Our vision is to create a federation of schools where children succeed and are proud of their achievements. We strive to actively promote British values and prepare our children to become role models, thus preparing them for life in modern Britain. To do this, we create a respectful, inclusive atmosphere that is welcoming, fun, friendly and safe. We are a federation that nurtures curiosity and creativity through an inspiring, challenging and engaging curriculum, where learning is at the heart of all that we do. Our children learn to become resilient and self-assured in an environment where success is celebrated. Our ethos is delivered through these aims for our children:

• To teach tolerance and respect to all children. All children are valued individuals and should be respected.

• To encourage everyone to have high expectations of themselves in an environment where they can reach their personal best.

• To promote equality of opportunity and aim to develop the children’s awareness of moral, cultural, social and spiritual issues.

• To have engaging and challenging opportunities through a creative and inclusive curriculum within the school and beyond into the local community.

• To encourage excellence by sharing successes and supporting the children to reach their full potential.

Through the aims of the Federation, we actively promote lifelong learning whilst ensuring the children respect one another, enjoy their school experiences and achieve their personal best.

At Newtons, it is our aim to provide a PE curriculum that includes all pupils and encourages them to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.  Our pupils have PE lessons from Nursery onwards.  All pupils are given the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports listed below.  They are able to practise the skills learnt both individually and in group situations, where much emphasis is placed upon co-operation and consideration.  As they progress, they are able to participate in high quality sports.  Last year, the government invested in a grant for schools to use to ensure all children are provided with as many experiences as possible and we strongly believe children should be exposed to these experiences in order to make their own decisions about what sports they enjoy and are talented at.

We have a strong partnership with our sports collective and other local schools and enter local events and competitions to promote PE and a healthy life style to all our children.  Our class teachers are trained in delivering high quality PE lessons twice a week to ensure all our children access at least 2 hours exercise per week and improve their levels of fitness.  We have a long history of sporting achievement as we regularly take part in inter-school competitions

Annual Events:

At Newtons we hold an annual Sports Day and Big Dance afternoon. Our intent is for every child to take part and have fun whilst striving to do their best!  We celebrate our children’s achievement at our annual sports award assembly in July.

Learning to swim is an important life skill.  We organise lessons for all children in Year 5.  These take place during school time and are a part of the school curriculum. Our aim is for all children to be able to swim a minimum or 25 metres by the age of eleven.

We are delighted to announce that at Newtons School, we have achieved the Gold School Games Mark Award for the 2018/2019 academic year.  The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.  We look forward to applying once again in 2020.
